FIRST ANNUAL “SHOW COORDINATORS CHOICE AWARD”

This year it was decided to add a recognition award for Bug Bust 24. The new award was a surprise addition and was designated “Show Coordinators Choice Award”. It was a great opportunity for me to view the show field and talk to participants. My criteria for the award was the opposite of what the judges were looking for (condition of a car), but just my personal favorite for a variety of warm and fuzzy emotional reasons.

I would like to share why I choose a particular car and owner. It started from registration when a pre-registered for “Display Only” orange 1973 Camper arrived. I met the owner Brennan while handing him his registration information and asked if he would prefer parking with the others in the show class. He did not feel his car was worthy and to that I responded “nonsense” and encouraged him to enter the show class for just a few dollars more. So that is what occurred. One of the first door price numbers called was Brennan’s and he picked an awesome VW Bus shirt provided by Dick Ide VW. He was very happy and mentioned “winning this door prize was well worth the extra few dollars to register in the judged class”. Then when I walked around to find a car that caught my eye I came across this orange 1973 Camper which is a favorite color and model of mine. Brennan (& Kristin) is the owner and as we chatted I sensed his excitement to continue working on his camper and actually going camping in it next year with his young family. He loves his VW! Well since this award was based strictly on emotion, I knew I had found my favorite car with a charm all its own and an owner who presented enthusiastic spirit and love of owning a vintage Volkswagen.
